Gonçalo Saraiva Matias, a lecturer at the Lisbon School of the Law Faculty of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and former Director of the Católica Global School of Law, has been appointed President of the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (FFMS).
This appointment is in recognition of the hard work and dedication Gonçalo Matias has given to the FFMS in his more than four years of collaboration with the Foundation, and for his teaching and research career.
His history in this prestigious Foundation began in 2018, as a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and as Director of Studies. "The years I lived at the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Dr. Jaime Gama, were of enormous wealth and acquisition of knowledge. It is therefore with an enormous sense of responsibility that I now assume the presidency of an institution that I greatly admire and whose purpose is to contribute to a more informed and enlightened country," says the new President.
Gonçalo Matias began his academic career at the Catholic University of Portugal, where he earned his undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees in law. He also did a period of research as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University Law School. He is also a Visiting Professor at Washington University in St. Louis Law School and advisor for Legal and Constitutional Affairs at the Civil House of the President of the Republic. Since January 2021, he has been a Conciliator at the OSCE Arbitration Conciliation Court, a position he combines with his professional activity as a teacher and associate lawyer at Saraiva Matias e Associados.
