Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, the vice-rector of Católica between 2012 and 2018, has been appointed Prefect of the Dicastery of Culture and Education of the Holy See where he will be responsible for all levels of Catholic Education in the world, from Basic to Higher Education.
Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa congratulates the Cardinal on this appointment: "It is with great pride that the Catholic University received the news of the appointment of His Eminence, Cardinal José Tolentino Mendonça as the new Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See. Distinguished intellectual and academic, the appointment of Cardinal Tolentino Mendonça is an important sign of transformation in a field that is determinant for the affirmation of more cohesive societies, especially in the face of the violent threats and contradictions of our present.
