Fundação Amélia de Mello strengthens partnership with Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Protocolo UCP e FAM

Yesterday, September 22, 2025, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and the Fundação Amélia de Mello (FAM) signed a protocol agreement whose main objective is to strengthen the Foundation's continued support for higher education and training provided by UCP, with a special focus on the areas of international knowledge creation, innovation in society, impact philanthropy, and social investment.

This partnership between the two entities, now reinforced and in force for another four years, dates back to 1967, when the Portuguese Catholic University was founded, making the Amélia de Mello Foundation one of UCP's most important patrons, present at the most significant moments in the University's history.

According to Isabel Capeloa Gil, rector of UCP, “this protocol allows us to extend a long-standing relationship, adapting it to the new development needs of UCP and reflecting the Foundation's vocation for intervention in the field of education and social responsibility.”

Vasco de Mello, president of the Fundação Amélia de Mello, also says that “collaboration with educational institutions that practice excellence in teaching deserves special attention, and the Portuguese Catholic University is an excellent example.”

This new protocol, in addition to providing support through scholarships for students of recognized academic merit who lack financial means, enabling them to complete their bachelor's, master's, and/or doctoral degrees in various UCP faculties, also provides support for the “Alfredo da Silva Chair” and sponsorship of conferences, among other things.
