The fifth edition of the biannual magazine Alma Mater (AM) was published in July 2024 and, according to Paulo Campos Pinto, its director, it celebrates “the remarkable contributions of all the Rectors, Deans, teachers and researchers that have, over time, made Católica a byword for academic excellence”.
The publication also brings together articles and interviews with members of the academic community, such as alumni, teachers, students, researchers and partners, as well as articles about the university's projects and partnerships.
Starting with the alumni, this issue features profiles and interviews with five former students: Isabel Fezas Vital, Nuno da Silva Gonçalves SJ, Maria Cortez de Lobão and Martim Leitão.
The main interview in this fifth edition is with Joana Vicente, a Philosophy alumna and independent film producer and executive. It is also possible to find interviews with Manuel Braga da Cruz, Maria João Amorim, Luísa Mota Ribeiro, Nelson Costa Ribeiro, Maria and Aníbal Cavaco Silva, Jorge Magalhães Correia and Ilídio Pinho. In addition to these interviews, this edition also presents the profiles of two members of the UCP's Board of Trustees: Miguel Almeida S.J. and Vasco de Mello.
Regarding visits made by important figures to the UCP, this edition includes the visit made by Sister Helen Alford and Rui Chafes, who were recognized as Doctors “Honoris Causa” by UCP, and also the visit by the activist Vandana Shiva.
Concerning relevant UCP projects, this issue highlights Woman+, a mentoring and Job Shadowing program created by the UCP to inspire female leadership in recent graduates, and also Transform4Europe, an alliance of which UCP is a member, that focuses on creating a sustainable and inclusive educational project.
Also of great note is the Rector of UCP, Isabel Capeloa Gil, who was the only Portuguese on Forbes' 50 over 50 list. She was also elected Personality of the Year at the AmCham Tributes 2024 Gala, was considered one of the 25 most influential women in Portugal by Revista Executiva and was appointed to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Museus e Monumentos de Portugal Boards of Trustees.
Finally, this issue highlights UCP's partnership with Grupo Germano de Sousa (for the creation of a diagnostic laboratory for medical students), the welcoming, by the President of Portugal, of the refugee students supported by UCP and also the main sustainability statistics of UCP.
