Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa was distinguished with the Gold Medal of Municipal Merit of the municipality of Sintra, during the inauguration session of the Católica Medical School.
The medal, unanimously approved by the Sintra Municipal Assembly on September 7, was presented by the mayor of the municipality, Dr. Basílio Horta, who, in his speech during the ceremony, highlighted the relevance of the Católica Medical School for the municipality and the remarkable role played by Professor Isabel Capeloa Gil in its implementation.
"It is a structuring project for the future municipality of Sintra" highlighted Basílio Horta, considering that the installation of the Católica Medical School, "provides a first response to the lack of human resources" in the area of health care throughout the country and also in the municipality. "It is not enough to build health centres and even a hospital if these achievements are not accompanied by a correct allocation of medical resources to ensure the efficient operation of services", said Basílio Horta, adding that the Católica Medical School in Rio de Mouro "opens a new perspective in the academic training of doctors".
"A Faculty is a large knowledge centre that is established in a territory, and it will be successful if it intertwines with the living forces, with the business sector, the knowledge ecosystem, responding to and anticipating needs and contributing to the solution of problems", said the Rector of the UCP. Isabel Capeloa Gil highlighted "the great commitment" of the Sintra Town Hall, "so that this project was not a dream, but became a reality", emphasising that "It is in adversity that you know the good fight and we always did it with the support of CMSintra".
