Católica celebrates National Day and inaugurates Biotechnology building

Universidade Católica Portuguesa inaugurates its new building of the Faculty of Biotechnology in Porto, on February 7, at 3pm, on the occasion of the National Day of UCP. The President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Bishop of Porto, D. Manuel Linda, and the Rector of the UCP, Isabel Capeloa Gil, will be present.

Under the motto "The University as Protagonist of the Future", UCP marks its national day on February 7, the date when His Excellency the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, inaugurates the new building of the Faculty of Biotechnology at UCP , in Porto.

The inauguration of the new building, which has more than 90 laboratories and classrooms, will take place at 3 pm, on the UCP Porto campus, and is part of the National Day of the University celebration program, which this year takes place on the institution's Porto campus.

The new building where the Faculty of Biotechnology is located has an area of ​​more than 7,600 square meters divided into five floors, and includes the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) and the company Amyris Portugal.

In the solemn session of the National Day of UCP, the Doctorate Honoris Causa will be awarded by the Faculty of Biotechnology to Prof. Dr. Manuela Veloso, world specialist in the areas of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center JP Morgan Chase. Professor Isabel Braga da Cruz will be godmother in this ceremony.

During the event there will also be the imposition of insignia and the delivery of doctoral letters to doctors who obtained the degree in 2019. The UCP Gold Medal will also be awarded to Judge Counselour Maria dos Prazeres Beleza. The ceremony ends with the intervention of the President of the Republic.
