Entrepreneurship at UCP: Miguel Alemão stands out with a brand of personalized socks, focusing on sustainability

Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) is proud to highlight the success of its Alumni in a wide variety of areas. This time, we are introduced to Chulé, founded by Miguel Alemão (CATÓLICA-LISBON alumnus), a Portuguese brand that sells personalized socks, using original design and sustainable practices.

Miguel's passion in the business world is divided between the restaurant industry (he also owns the Conca restaurant) and Chulé, a brand of fun and unique socks. The latter currently has more than 50 stores across the country. In 2021, the focus was on national expansion, however, the biggest challenge at the moment is expanding the brand internationally.

Chulé is also committed to sustainability. Production takes place near Lisbon to minimize environmental impact. The brand also engages in charitable initiatives, such as donating one euro for every pack of socks sold to plant a tree and supporting the Soma foundation. In 2023, Chulé donated more than 1% of its revenues to environmental and social causes, aligning itself with the global initiative “1% for the Planet”.

Miguel believes that the Marketing discipline had the greatest impact on his professional life. Since he was young, he has always aspired to have his own company. He highlights the demands and fast pace of UCP, which create a competitive environment and encourage teamwork.

Chulé is now a business with impact because “since it was created, it has focused heavily on sustainability and bringing societal impact both environmentally and socially, and of course, through its designs, because no one can ignore fun socks”.
