Portuguese President inaugurates new Biotechnology building on National UCP Day

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, inaugurated the new building of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, on February 7. The inauguration of the building was part of the celebrations of the National Day of the UCP, in a ceremony attended by the Bishop of Porto, D. Manuel Linda, the Rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Doctor Manuel Heitor.

The new building of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia has an area of ​​over 7,600 square meters, divided into five floors. It includes more than 90 laboratories and classrooms, and also integrates the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) and the company Amyris Portugal.

The celebration of the National Day of UCP also included the award of the Doctorate Honoris Causa to Prof. Dr. Manuela Veloso, world specialist in the areas of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of J.P. Morgan Chase. Counselor Judge Maria dos Prazeres Beleza was awarded the UCP Gold Medal. The insignia were also imposed and the doctoral letters were delivered to the doctors who obtained the degree in 2019.
