The Universidade Católica Portuguesa created the COVID Solidarity Fund to reinforce support to students of the institution affected by the economic crisis resulting from COVID-19.
Anticipating the effects of the retraction of economic activity on the families and with the objective of preventing the abandonment of the institution by students in financial difficulties, Católica has reinforced its social support service. The COVID Solidarity Fund will have an initial allocation of 150,000.00 Euros, and it will be accessed by students of the institution who are in situations of fragility.
The President, Isabel Capeloa Gil, points out that "faced with an unprecedented situation, the university's mission, in addition to contributing with knowledge and scientific solutions to fight the pandemic, is to ensure quality training for its students, so that the country can have a post-COVID future. The technical solutions we provide for remote education, 24 hours after the suspension of face-to-face classes, are just one side of the equation. Equally important is ensuring the balance of the student community and giving, as far as possible, the financial support necessary for them to achieve their academic goals ". In 2019, Católica's support for students reached 2250 students.
