On the tenth anniversary of Observador, Isabel Capeloa Gil shares her vision for Portugal

As part of Observador's tenth anniversary, Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, was one of the personalities chosen to share her vision for Portugal in the next decade, contributing with a reflection on the country's structural challenges, highlighting the fundamental role of education.

In the article "Portugal, a country to fulfill", Isabel Capeloa Gil analyses the evolution of the Portuguese education system, highlighting that “Portugal has a reasonable education system, but not excellent. And it is very unstable in the initial training cycles. Obligatory schooling transformed the country, but the system has not been strengthened”.

She believes that “the greatest challenge is to educate for responsibility and autonomy, socially valuing critical independence and a sense of personhood, the achievement of which does not depend on the goodness of State policies”.

In addition to the article, Isabel Capeloa Gil participated in an interview on Rádio Observador, where she argued that "we must give graduates access to experiences outside their disciplinary framework", highlighting the importance of international experience and access to content outside the course's area of specialization.

Her reflection is part of the broader context of Clube dos 52, a Podcast celebrating Observador's tenth anniversary, in which, over the course of a year (52 weeks), 52 experts from various fields are challenged to share their vision for Portugal in the next decade.
