The Biomedical Research Centre (CBR) of the Faculty of Medicine of Universidade Católica Portuguesa will be installed on the campus of the Gulbenkian Science Institute (IGC) in Oeiras, in a partnership involving scientific research and the use of specialized resources.

The document establishing the cooperation between the two institutions was signed on February 10 by the Dean of UCP, Isabel Capeloa Gil, and the president of the Gulbenkian Foundation, António Feijó.

Pedro Simas, CBR's director, was also present at the signing of this protocol, which will allow CBR's researchers to have access to IGC's scientific support units, in addition to the provision of space (about 600m2), equipment and advanced technology.

In the IGC's history, this is one of many scientific projects related to life sciences that the institution incubated and later gave rise to prestigious research centers in Portugal; examples are the Champalimaud Foundation, ITQB Nova and CEDOC (currently Nova Medical School Research), among others.

Three scientists linked to the IGC, now hired by CBR - Maria João Amorim, Raquel Oliveira and Luís Teixeira -, with recognized work in the areas of virology, chromosome dynamics and host-microorganism interaction, will have, in an initial phase, scientific affiliation in the two institutions.
