The Católica Medical School of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) joined, as of July 15, the Collaboration for Tuberculosis Vaccine Discovery (CTVD). This is the world's largest platform of scientists dedicated to the development of new vaccines against tuberculosis. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this working group seeks to improve the only tuberculosis vaccine - BCG. Tuberculosis is a disease that has recorded 10 million new cases and 1.4 million deaths in 2019.

Paulo J. G. Bettencourt is the new Portuguese member of the CTVD, representing the Católica Medical School.

According to the researcher and assistant professor of the Católica Medical School, "it was a very important recognition for the Católica Medical School, as we are now part of this group that brings together the best scientists in the world, in a true sharing of scientific knowledge".
